Finally, here’s some slight redemption for all those times an 18-wheeler was driving way too close to cyclists on the road.
In Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday morning, a semi truck drove into one of the few spaces we don’t share with motor vehicles—a bike path, emphasis on the bike—and got stuck under a low overpass bridge near The Ohio State University, according to a report by KUTV. Luckily, neither the driver nor any cyclists or runners were harmed in the incident, though judging from the photos that the Columbus Police Department tweeted, the truck was pretty badly warped out of shape.
Kindly, the police department gave the truck the benefit of the doubt, tweeting that its driver, who was from outside of Ohio, “was confused” and trying to find a ramp leading onto the highway, but he wound up on the bike path instead. Thankfully, the police were able to get the truck out of the path yesterday afternoon, KUTV reported.

When cyclists saw the news on Twitter, their reactions ranged from amused to plain angry. Tom Oktavec pointed out that, really, the guy wasn’t that far off.
Perhaps the driver should have taken a cue from Ross on Friends before going any further.
Some, though, found humor in the situation.
A word of advice all drivers out there: Always check the road signs before heading in that direction. And if a route’s looking a little too narrow, it’s probably because your vehicle’s too big for it.
