Prefer your trail rides to feel like a party? Maybe this mullet bike will help. Santa Cruz and Juliana released the 2023 updates for two of their most popular mountain bike models. For Santa Cruz, the 5010 gets a mini-makeover, and for Juliana, the Furtado received the same treatment. And both include the shift to what has now become known as mullet-style wheels.

The two bikes are essentially fraternal twins: The Furtado is the women's-oriented model of the built-for-fun trail bike (though, of course, men can also shred on the Furtado as well.) The two bikes are essentially the same, sharing the same frame geometry and components. The models only differ in touchpoints (grips, saddle), shock tunes, and colors. The Furtado also comes in limited sizes, from XS to M, while the 5010 runs XS to XXL.

The new builds include small tweaks to the already-popular models. The biggest twist? The mullet, for bikes. The Furtado and 5010 now come with mixed sizes for wheels, with a 29-inch wheel up front and 27.5" in the rear. The brands claim this means improved traction in the front and faster handling in the rear. The suspension remains at 140mm in the front and 130mm out back, making these bikes truly trail bikes rather than cross-country machines.

Unlike some mountain bikes that keep chainstay length standard across sizes, both bikes have proportionally sized chainstay lengths and seat tube angles per frame size. The aim is to optimize each different frame's geometry so riders of any height can ride confidently.

The addition of a “glovebox” is another great addition, leaving space behind the water bottle mount for a burrito roll of tools or a regular burrito tucked away for snack time on the trail.

The Furtado is available in two colorways: Matte Aquamarine and Deep Purple. The 5010 is available in four colors: Matte Nickel, Gloss Red, Stormbringer Purple, and Golden Yellow.
