The Norco Fluid FS 2 Women’s mountain bike is a playful, exciting ride. It’s great on long rides, but it’s so pleasantly responsive and springy, it's also fun for playing around and build skills.

Even though it has a playful gait, it still felt very stable and predictable even through sandy sections, partially thanks to the super knobby, grippy Maxxis Forekaster 2.6-inch-wide tires. And while it is slightly heavy compared to similar style and price bikes, it eagerly punched up steep, rocky pitches.

The aluminum frame has a RockShox Deluxe R shock and 120mm of travel, which is well suited for moderate trails and mild drops, making it a great bike for an ex-beginner who is progressing to more difficult trails and obstacles. The 130mm travel RockShox Sektor RL fork gives you a bit more give and bounce in the front to pop up and over bigger rocks and logs.

The SRAM NX 1x11 speed drivetrain has a 11-42 cassette and a 30-tooth chainring, which helps it zip up and over risers and climbs. It comes outfitted with a TranzX Stealth 120 mm dropper post (size small; 100mm for XS and 130mm for M) and SRAM Level T two-piston hydraulic disc brakes (180mm front, 160mm rear).

Playful and capable, the Norco Fluid FS 2 Women’s is a great bike for riders looking to ride trails a bit faster and get a little more rowdy.

Women’s Sizes and Geometry

The Fluid is available with 27.5-inch wheels in extra-small and small sizes, and the medium is offered with a choice of 27.5 or 29-inch wheels. The all sizes come with adjusted parts, including 170mm cranks on the extra-small and small sizes (the medium has 175s), and sized-adjusted dropper posts—100mm on an extra-small, 120mm on a small, and 130mm on a medium.

Affordable Components, Enjoyable Ride

This 120mm aluminum women’s bike has a RockShox Deluxe R shock and a 130mm RockShox Sektor RL fork, which is normal for a bike of this caliber, all the better to soak up chunky, rocky descents up front while keeping the rear travel under control. The Maxxis Forekaster 2.6” 3C/EXO/TR tires are super knobby and very grippy in loose, sandy trail. The SRAM NX 1x11 speed drivetrain has a 11-42 cassette and a 30-tooth chainring, which gives you plenty of room to spin easy on climbs or push the pace on open sections.

A TranzX Stealth dropper post cleanly lowers your saddle out of the way with a remote near your left hand, and easily pops back up once you’ve conquered the descent. Its outfitted with SRAM Level T two-piston hydraulic disc brakes (180mm rotors in the front, 160mm in the rear), which are lighter than their four-piston counterpart, the Guide. The saddle is the company’s no-frills Norco XC Saddle, which I didn’t find it uncomfortable, but it’s not a game changer either. If you’re picky about your seat, you’ll want to swap it out for your favorite women’s specific saddle.

Riding the Fluid FS 2 made riding trails feel easier. It gave me the perfect medium between forgiveness and rowdiness, both soaking up and springing off of rocks. Instead of thinking my way through each step of riding each obstacle or turn, my mind was clear and I was just flowing with the trail. The Fluid gives you the freedom to get creative and try new lines and obstacles in an accessibly-priced package.
