As much as we love to hate it, indoor season is upon us. With the sun setting before the end of the work day, roads icing over, and inclement weather becoming more common in the forecast, riding outside is just not always as easy as it is during other times of the year—and so we trudge to our trainers to grind out the miles.

While it makes sense to just grab a pair of old bibs for an indoor training session, Velocio hopes to inspire you to rethink that logic with the launch of a new line of lightweight, breathable gear to make those (sometimes painful) indoor rides a little more comfortable.

The collection aims to be a solution for cyclists who want something cooler while riding indoors, Velocio co-founder Andrew Gardner told Bicycling. “People tend to use old kits or tired bibs on their trainer rides, when in reality, the static, hot nature of those rides calls for even more comfortable gear,” he said.

It’s true: More often than we’d like to admit, our indoor cycling gear more closely resembles what we wear in privacy of our own homes than the sharp kit we usually sport on the road. You rock the ratty old bibs solely on your trainer in the same way you wear that holey college sweatshirt only on your own turf. But the problem is, wearing worn-out gear that’s stretched out, breaking down, or heavy can make your Zwift session or spin class way less enjoyable. And the more you dread those indoor training rides, the less likely you’ll stay on track through the off-season.

To make the new collection with indoor cycling in mind, Velocio redesigned its popular Radiator jersey by removing the sleeves, pockets, and zippers—all accessories crucial for outdoor riding, but extraneous indoors—while keeping the same lightweight, breathable materials of the original. While some cyclists will still prefer the waistband-free feel of bib shorts on indoor rides, others will enjoy the ease of the Ultralight shorts designed without shoulder straps.

“The Ultralight bibs and the Radiator jersey are what I use on the hottest outdoor days— Dirty Kanza’s baking heat for example—so to streamline those pieces even more makes them all the lighter,” Velocio ambassador Ted King told Bicycling.

“Riding indoors is not nearly as fun as being outside,” he said. “So your best bet is to make yourself as comfortable, happy, and streamlined as possible so that the time will fly by.”
